Does Organic Taste Better?Fish Tale Organic IPA

Fish Tale IPA (6.5% ABV, 42 IBU) Thinking I’d ride the wave of organic, is better tonight I tasted a beer from Fish Brewing Company located in Washington’s capitol of Olympia. This organic IPA is called Fish Tale (6.5% ABV, 42 IBU). 42 IBUs!? Wow that is pretty low for an IPA. Anyway living in Portland I have plenty of friends and co workers who are into organic this, organic that, and not all are hippies. Many people in the NW are like that and love to also do what they can to save the environment like recycle pop cans and...

Portlandia Pils – Laurelwood Brewery – PDX

Portlandia Pils – 5.5% ABV, 50 IBU A pilsner? That’s right, I tried a pilsner tonight from a respectable Portland micro brewery: Laurelwood Brewing Co. whose pub and beers I’ve written about before on this blog. This ain’t no ordinary pilsner but one that should have fellow pilsners follow it past the parted red sea. The Portlandia Pils (5.5% ABV, 50 IBU) was outstanding. It didnt...

Rubicon Brewing Co. – Sacramento, CA

Rubicon Brewing Co. – Sacramento, CA Sactown, the capitol of the state of my youth. The end. That’s about as much as I know about it besides just kind of being out in the middle of no where. Anyway I was down in Sacramento, CA recently for business with a co-worker. We stayed downtown in an acceptable hotel which was good since we were in walking distance or a short taxi ride drive to many dinner choices. There weren’t many micro-breweries or brew pubs like my hometown but hey, not every city can be cool like Portland! Anyway, we decided...

Spiraling Spiral Jetty IPA

Epic Spiral Jetty IPA 6.6% ABV My choice for tonight’s tasting comes from a state that I haven’t tested an IPA before: Utah! WTH? Honestly that’s what I first thought. But surprisingly it wasn’t the beer that sucked but it did lack. The suds is called Spiral Jetty IPA (6.6% ABV,IBU unknown) from Epic Brewing in Salt Lake City. At first look the presentation of the bottle/label is basic and uninteresting. I bought it only b/c it was surrounded by beers familiar to me and I wanted to try a new IPA. So I bought it. The label stated that...

Traveling Outside of My Comfort Zone: Stumptown Tart Belgian Style Ale

Stumptown Tart Belgian Style Ale (7.8 ABV, deplorable IBU 15) Any long time reader of this awesome blog could tell ya I am not into the Belgian styles. They’ll say that I’ll leave that style to Irving and the rest of the Jersey fellas to blog about. That is true. I’m not against tasting them and as I’ve said before for this blog, I will try all kinds of styles outside of my hophead comfort zone. So tonight I bought a Belgian style ale home brewed in Portland, Oregon by Bridgeport Brewing Company called Stumptown Tart Belgian Style Ale...
